Since 1997 the Gualala River Watershed Council has hosted monthly
educational forums and workshops that provide stakeholders in the watershed with the opportunity to gain awareness of watershed issues. The GRWC takes the approach of providing information to the community with the goal of raising critical thought and analysis on issues that impact the watershed. This forum allows landowners and stakeholders easy access to information, from which all members of the community can draw conclusions on complex scientific, legislative, and regulatory matters. While stakeholders may draw different conclusions from the information presented, the engagement of the community in the process is the core of the GRWC mission.
Monitoring program The GRWC is a leader in the development of programs for watershed assessment and monitoring. The Council collects data on the physical condition of our watershed; this allows us to evaluate ecological events, long term trends, and the effectiveness of our restoration projects. Our monitoring program is designed to improve watershed conditions through collaboration between private landowners, community groups and public agencies. Restoration program
Implementation of restoration projects throughout the watershed has yielded significant results in the recovery of beneficial habitat in salmonid streams. The GRWC has participated in the reduction of sediment entering salmonid bearing waterways by assisting landowners with the upgrading of more than 100 miles of roads. A cooperative effort between the GRWC and Gualala Redwoods, Inc. has |

increased the number and frequency of cool water pools by placing logs in various streams deficient in large wood. This project has greatly enhanced the summer and winter rearing habitat for Coho salmon and steelhead trout thus increasing the potential recovery of the salmonid fisheries within the Gualala River Watershed. |
