Water Quality Stewardship Award
The Gualala River Watershed is located on California’s North Coast at the divide between Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, just 100 miles North of San Francisco.
The watershed’s 740-mile stream network flows through 191,000 acres of woodlands, grasslands and wetlands to the Pacific Ocean.
As with most North Coast watersheds, the habitat and water quality of the Gualala have been significantly impaired over the past 150 years.
The Gualala River Watershed Council is a local nonprofit organization working to restore the natural balance of the watershed and preserve its environment from further degradation.
